No matter where you are in your professional journey, just starting, newly certified, or 25+ years in, we all face struggles. What makes a struggle even harder is when you don't feel supported, or when others make you feel like your struggle isn't as "hard" as theirs. This not only can feel demoralizing, but can also make one question if they should continue to pursue their struggle. Sometimes we all need to remember that while our mountains may look different, they can feel just as immovable.
I want to surround myself with others who know what moving mountains feels like and support me... regardless of their viewpoint of my struggle. Maybe you've just been told that you didn't get hired for that position that you really wanted, or maybe you found out last week that you didn't get an internship placement. Whatever your struggle is, I hope you can find your people that will support you in your struggle. They don't need to help you out of it or tell you all their stories about a similar experience; they just need to be there and allow you to face your struggle with someone by your side.
On the flip side, if you know someone in our tiny but growing world of child life who is struggling... please let them know you have an open ear if they need it. Sometimes we don't know who we can turn to when things get tough and it's nice when someone extends the hand we didn't even know we needed.
Struggle is hard, moving mountains ain't easy, but if everything went perfectly all the time we would never know how good it feels when we actually do succeed. So, support others in their struggle and know that when the day comes that you face a struggle too, there will be someone standing in your corner.
